Pressure Cooker Reviews - Fagor Pressure Cookers

There are many benefits to using a pressure cooker, but when it comes to buying one all might be lost if you purchase inferior materials or one that you simply don’t enjoy using. In other words it pays to do some research.

The best place for you to start would be to read our guide on how to choose the best pressure cookers which covers:

  • Stainless Steel & Three-ply bottom
  • Accurate pressure indicator and quick pressure release
  • Safety features
  • What size is right for you?
  • Warranty and accessories
  • Avoid non-stick
  • Where to buy?

You might also want to review our article on how to use a pressure cooker.

Before we begin our first pressure cooker review I just want to point out that Ryan and I are just regular people so we are by no means expert culinary specialists. Disclaimers aside what we do know is that when something doesn’t work or when something feels cheap and poorly designed, it sure does take the fun out of getting something new. We love to read tons of reviews and stories from people before we make a big purchase to avoid that bubble burst…..so in that spirit here goes:

Fagor Splendid Multi Set: Our Review

We have been using this modern Fagor pressure cooker set for about a year now and we can honestly say that we are pretty happy with how things have performed. Fagor is known for excellent quality and design for a mid-range price point and we were pretty impressed with the feel of the materials (save the handle) and the functionality of the pots.

One thing we would like to have seen is a handle that was made out of something other than heat resistant plastic. We may be naive to think that just because it is plastic that it wont hold up as well as other materials for the job it needs to do (no evidence of this yet), however something about plastic on cookware irks us.

It’s also fair to mention that most pressure cookers do seem to have a similar plastic handle configurations. To date we have not had any trouble with the handle and pressure release mechanisms. File this one in the ‘gripe’ category and not the ‘con’ category.

The kit came with clear glass lids which make it easy to use the pots for recipes other than pressure cooking and has allowed us to move some of our older, now duplicate sized pots out of the kitchen.

Here are some more specifics on what is in the box.

Fagor’s Splendid 2×1 Pressure Cooker 5 Piece Set Includes:

fagor pressure cooker - Splendid Line

Which line do we recommend?
We recommend Fagor America’s Duo Line or mid-range pressure cooker models with the main difference over the Splendid (introductory range) line is the pressure mechanism allows for two pressure settings: Low (8psi) and High (15psi) for use in a wider range of recipes (Which would come in handy). The handle is also redesigned. Recommended by the Cooking Club of America.

Our final thoughts:
While it’s not the Mercedes of Pressure Cookers, it works tremendously well, is made of A+ materials (other than the handle) and comes from a well reviewed and easy to contact manufacturer (we were ale to reach them with questions no trouble). It has been simple for us to use and learn. Replacement parts when needed are readily available from the manufacture and are very reasonably priced. For the price this is a great pressure cooker for us.

I am trying to reach Fagor because I am having trouble pressure cooking pinto beans for the first time even though I have followed the instructions in the manual to the T and have also cleaned the valve numerous times even though it was not clogged. I submitted my problem through their website because I couldn’t find a contact number for customer service ANYWHERE! In the manuals, on the box..NOWHERE! Not even on the website. So, I was force to “submit” something. It has been 3 days and I still have not heard back. You said they were easy to contact no problem, but I am having a problem. Can you help me out here? Maybe a phone number or something??

ok. I found the number. I feel silly because it is on the website afterall. I just googled “Fagor customer support number” and there it was! I don’t know why I didn’t try that before. I will try calling it tomorrow. Thank you all the same for at least letting me know that they are in fact easy to get a hold of.

I just got my presto pressure cooker from Amazon and it is really good. I’m so excited that I want to share the same 35% discount that I received with anyone who is in the market for a pressure cooker: http://amzn.to/16K0KOI - you will not be disappointed.

Hi. I have the Fagor set you described above, the duo set, but it didnt come with a stand. Where could I find something like that? Btw, I really love my pressure cooker and exploring new recipes to use with it. I live in Mexico City, some 7,000 feet above sea level, so traditional oven cooking takes even longer and dries out a lot of foods. Anyway, thanks for your webpage, its been a big help and encouragement!

I used to own a Namco pressure cooker, no problems, easy to use, had no problems for ten or so years, bought this Fagor Duo pressure cooker had nothing but trouble, burnt food from the unit not sealing due to the yellow button not activating.
That’s it it’s going in the bin, I’ll buy a better brand that is reliable and no more burnt food.

Don’t think much of Fagor pressure cooker. Thought was doing wife a favor when I tossed out 20 year old pressure cooker in favor of new Fagor. Mistake. No matter what we do Fagor leaks around seal, can’t build pressure. Leakage puts out gas fire at times -dangerous.

I bought a six quart Fagor Elite model in 2013 and have tried to use it only twice. The cooker lid seal appears to be defective and the cooker won’t build up pressure. Fagor customer service said I should order a new seal but when I went to web site they were out of stock! Could this be because a lot of folks are having the same issue with defective seals?

I am interested in a 2 quart or 2 liter pressure cooker. I’m single, not very strong, old and make my own broth. I’ve read that you can use cheesecloth in the cookers. I wrap my wings 2 at a time in the cloth so I don’t have to fish for the bones. I cook the wings 2 at a time in a 4 or 5 cup sauce pan for at least 4 or 5 hours. I think a small cooker would help me. Are the Fagor products dishwasher safe? If I cook the wings, remove the broth, then add more water, will I get the max amount of “juice” / “flavor” out of the wings the second time around? Is a third round a good idea? I’ve read about the Prestige and Hawkins 2 liter products and these things do blow up. How about the Fagor? I just can’t risk chicken broth all over my kitchen and God forbid on the ceiling. Where do I buy the product? I’ve been looking at these tiny cookers for so long my head is spinning. Please warn others that the Fissler 2.5 shoots out steam 5 ft. in 3 directions. Will the little Fagor work on a glass top stove? Sorry if you have already mentioned this. I am all reviewed out; beginning to mix things up. I’m so glad to talk to someone individually.
Thanks,
Andrea

Need easy directions, why does steam shoot out 5ft? That would be very dangerous if small children are near. Can I have step by step directions to get started?

I purchased a Fagor Lux Pressure Cooker in November of 2016. It stopped working six weeks later and I tried repeatedly to contact Fagor Technical support at the phone number on the Owners Manual but could not get anyone to answer. The voice mail instructed me to make a request through the company website which I did. The website said I would be contacted within 48 hours and I am still waiting. Very poor customer service. ANSWER YOUR PHONES!!!
